Next day you will trail descend steep forest to the overpass on the Dzongri Goechala trek after walking an hour from there you will reach to Tshoka.

Day 1 Goechala Trek: – NJP to Yuksom (5,800ft).
Day 2 Goechala Trek: – Yuksom (5,800 feet) to Sachen (7,200 feet).4 hours.
Day 3 Goechala Trek: – Sachen (7,200 feet) – Tshoka (9,650 feet). 4 hours
Day 4 Goechala Trek: – Tshoka (9,650 feet) – Dzongri (12,980 feet) via Phedang (12,050 feet). 5-6 hours
Day 5 Goechala Trek: – Dzongri (12980ft) to Dzongri top and back.
Day 6 Goechala Trek: – Dzongri to Thansing via Kockchurang (12096ft).6 hours.
Day 7 Goechala Trek: – Thansing (12894ft) to Lamuney (13,693ft).
Day 8 Goechala Trek: – Lamuney (13,693ft) to Goechala (16,000ft) and back
Day 9 Goechala Trek: – Kokchurang to Tshoka via Phedang. 6-7 hours.
Day 10 Goechala Trek: – Tshoka to Yuksom via Bhakim and Sachen. 6 hours.
Day 11 Goechala Trek: – Drive back to NJP.
Goechala Trek Itinerary (Detailed)
Day 1 Yuksom
Drive from NJP to Yuksom
Our representative will meet you at NJP railway station at 10 am in the morning and we will start our scenic drive to Yuksom. Yuksom is a nice small hill town in West Sikkim away from the chaos of Gangtok or Darjeeling. It was earlier the capital of Sikkim and also Danny Denzongpa’s breweries get its name from this small town Yuksom brewery which produces the famous beer of Sikkim HIT and Dansberg.
Day 2 Sachen
Trek from Yuksom to Sachen
Most the trekkers reach Tshoka or Bhakim in a day but being a first day of trek we have another stopover at Sachen. After breakfast start the Goechala trek to reach Sachen of trekking to reach Sachen approx 7 Kms through thick forest. The trekking trail is a Gradual Ascent and descent through the dense green semi-tropical forest. Reach the campsite and treat yourself for the hardwork with the bonfire and sumptuous dinner. Overnight stay in tents.
Day 3 Tshoka
Trek from Sachen to Tshoka
Today’s trek is short but a strenuous uphill climb. Trekkers enjoy the initial part which goes through the thick forest and swinging bridges over small rivers. After crossing the trail climbs towards Bakhim. Bakhim has forest hut and many trekkers like stay at Bakhim another 2 hours of steep climb and you will the beautiful village of Tshoka. At Tsokha village there are few small shops which also serve hot noodles and a beautiful monastery. The views from Tshoka village will take away your all pain.
Day 4 Dzongri
Trek from Tshoka to Dzongri
Trek from Tshoka to Dzongri is the highlight of the Goechala trek though a steep climb which starts from the village itself. The initial part of the Goecha la trek is through well laid log trail covered in the shadow of thick forest and thick rhododendron forest, once you cross this you suddenly come in open area and views of lofty Kanchenjunga peak are amazing. Reach Dzongri and stay in forest huts if available else in tents.
Day 5 Rest Day
Explore the beauty of Dzongri
The day is to rest as in last three days we almost gain 2700 meters in altitude. Explore the surroundings of Dzongri trek, Dzongri trek is famous for views it offer from Dzongri top. Trekkers go for Dzongri trek at 4 am to capture the first sunrays on Mt Kanchenjunga.
Day 6 Thansing
Trek from Dzongri to Thansing
After days of uphill trekking in the Himalayas today will be descent of around 1000ft and again a climb of 1000ft over 8 Kms in distance which make it an enjoyable trek along the majestic views of Mt. Kanchenjunga. Mt. Pandim, Mt. Kabru etc.
Day 7 Lamuney
Trek from from Thansing to Lamuney
The trek from Thansing to Lamuney is an easy one. Crossing the meadows and little ascends from Lamuney takes you to the Samiti lake at 14000 ft. Enjoy at samiti lake for sometime and return back to Lamuney.
Day 8 Kockchurang
Trek from Lamuney to Goechla pass & then trek to Kockchurang
Today is the longest day and it’s like a summit day in any expedition. We will start at 3 am early in the morning to make sure that we reach to witness the sunrise from the Goechala pass. Spend some time at Goechala pass enjoying the views of Mt. Pandim on your right and Mt. Kanchendjonda in front and then descend to Lamuney and trek further to reach Kockchurang.
Day 9 Tshoka
Trek from Kockchurang to Tshoka
Trek till Phedang which meet the same trail to Dzongri and trek downhill all the way to village Tshoka. Camp at Tshoka
Day 10 Yuksom
Trek from Tshoka to Yuksom
Trek all the way downhill till Yuksom via Bakhim crossing four swinging bridges between Bakhim and Yuksom. Trekking downhill is faster but lot of trekkers find it difficult than trekking uphill and every trekker should note that they should not put too much jerk on their knees while descending. Stay in forest hut or camp in Yuksom.
Day 11 NJP
Start the drive to NJP to reach by 4 PM.
Things to get for Goechala Trek
- Poncho, Rain Coat (Preferable) or Umbrella any one is must: When in mountains you never know when it will rain.
- Backpack (Min 55 Ltrs): A good quality backpack from reputed brand and try it before buying.
- Floaters or Sandals: When you are at the camp they help to move freely
